Named after Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel, a legend in his own right!! Maybe shoulda went with “Frankel … fucking freak?!?! ‘Cause he is a fucking freak … destroyed them at Newmarket, cantering home in the 2000 Guineas after opening up at least a dozen length lead on the field. Not only does he remain undefeated in 6 career starts, his performance that day earned him a mind-blowing whopping 142 Timeform rating … one of the highest ratings of all time!! Fucking incredible!! Only time will tell if Frankel establishes himself as a very, very special horse, and stamps himself as one of the greatest. I’ll definitely be rooting for him!! Years ago when I was involved, immersed in the Sport of Kings, didn’t pay too much attention to the overseas runners other than always being a casual, interested observer. Honestly, didn’t really care for anything other than the North American game, I didn’t have to, we had our own equine stars to cheer on. Now, it appears my preference has reversed, has done a complete one eighty … all due to the fact that lately the North American thoroughbred industry, the breed in particular steadily continues its decline, its slow slide into mediocrity (such a shame too), while astonishingly the European industry/horses flourish. The 1st Saturday in May was always an exciting day for me (now, hardly garners a glimpse), evoking and stirring so many great memories, and at the same time allowing for optimism, anxiously awaiting and hoping for horse racing’s next big star. It never happened!! And on May 7, two minutes after the starting gate has opened for the Run for the Roses, the 137th running of The Kentucky Derby I guarantee it won’t once again, sadly recent history is destined to repeat itself. That, you can bet on!!
