Usually use Wild Pacific Salmon, but today Rainbow trout was on sale… and truth be told, I prefer it to salmon.

Had time today, so drove down to say ‘hi’ to the old gang. Side note; nothing/nobody has changed… kinda depressing. Anyway, was fun seeing everyone, visiting… then suddenly Florentino appears, and first thing he says to me, “go get some food”, lol! AND, I never went overboard taking advantage of his generosity. Is a perfect amount, thanks my friend!

Beans and bread were gratis… courtesy Iris and Tiff respectively. Thanks gals! Hmmm, am I really the king of shite, lol?!
Company next door was having some sorta huge open house today. Lotsa activity early this morning (6:15 am) setting up a tent, etc., getting prepared. Lookie what else came (around 10 o’clock)… Caplansky’s food truck!! My man Daniel told me it was gonna be gratis too… hell, he even went and got my lunch for me, lol. I didn’t realize till later that they had 3 choices. Mine’s the pulled chicken, btw (ginger ale to drink too). Was really good, even went back for another side of fries later in the day. There were tables and chairs for sitting ‘n eating too, was very well organized. Only a few pics as I was working!

I always have! Been selling stuff for years, and even in my new life still do. This time was my Weber charcoal grill. I originally posted an ad a couple weeks ago for $250, but only got a few nibbles. Deleted that one, posted again 3 days ago… this time for $300. Why? ‘Cause that’s how I motherfucking roll! Actually, was something one of the respondents said, that convinced me to. Late last night, I got my first query. Called the dude back this afternoon… we agreed upon $275 (I agreed to throw in a few accessories I had no use for as well). Dude is on his way as I write this (he just called, running a bit behind). Dude also rented a cargo van (one of those auto share companies), so I know he’s serious and motivated. Right now, have a beer in one hand… awaiting his arrival to have cold hard cash in the other!

I haven’t been posting many food posts, certainly not like I did in the past. I’m lazy, even w/ this one. I omitted important pics. It’s my home made sauce, and hand made meatballs – I play around and tweak them ever so slightly occasionally. This time, instead of breadcrumbs I used day old bread. I put the loaf out on the counter to make it more stale (drier, easier to work with), and then broke it up, crumbing it. I also grilled the meatballs on my Weber grill using hardwood lump charcoal. I did it not so much for the flavour, I mean it definitely adds a different dimension … my main motivation was not wanting to create a splattering, greasy mess in my kitchen which I’d have to clean, and this worked beautifully browning (blackening really) the meatballs. And, yes this is the glory pic that is missing. Then it was a matter of tossing them into the sauce, simmering for an hour or two. Oh, I also used Barilla extra long spaghetti (comes in a bag, not box) for fun too!
manly men eats … and, i ain’t joking! huge hunks of meat, chunks of fresh bread, that’s it. it’s fill yer plate, and feed yer face … miss manners would shit her britches! oh, and lots of booze. and, although i wasn’t allowed to leave hungry – my friend armtwistedinsisted i stay for eats, i was somehow (surprisingly) able to deflect countless gratis offers of all kinds of drinks from the guys … even brandy, yep, def manly manly, lol!
… especially now, lol! Ok ok, joking … so lighten up!

AND blackened skin, blackened skin y’all! Much to delicate to attempt flippin’ on the grill. Cook on indirect high heat, and when you see it start to ooze its juices, that’s your cue – have your fish spatula at the ready … nothing worse than overcooked fish!

Saturday, June 15! As I’ve posted before, my 8K run is a circuitous route, and the halfway point falls beautifully (and perfectly) at a center of sorts. Don’t want to be too descriptive, divulging anything … there’s many community activities/events held here throughout the year … and Saturday morning during the summer months, it’s bustling. Today, I knew beforehand (least, it’s what I planned, sometimes my body doesn’t co-operate – tells me differently), I was going to run hard for 4K and hopefully set a solid time, then stop, walk around, see what was going on … taking pics of today’s fun. There was obstacle courses/races being set-up for little kids to participate. Later on, there was a FREE BBQ planned … like I said, very strong community minded participation indeed. What I didn’t realize (at first anyways – halfway through, I knew I was onto a great time) was that I would stop the RunKeeper clock in 18:18 … my fastest 4K split EVER! And afterwards on the second half of my run, I was planning on taking it relatively easy, was hoping to be home in 20 minutes … but after my first one kilometer interval, was extremely surprised that I was running faster than I thought (my audio cue had me at a whopping 1.08 kilometers after 5 minutes), in fact it was equal to the pace to my eighteen-eighteen time. Plan B: The wheels in my head are turning … now, suddenly I’m on a mission to try my best to match that time … after the second interval, I knew I wasn’t quite going to make it, but it STILL didn’t stop me from continuing trying … and I came home in 18:50 … still very respectable – and combined, puts me at just over 37 minutes for the complete run … not too shabby, eh?

Not only am I NOT dreading it, I’m embracing it!! It’s to the point where recently I’m taunting/daring/wanting anyone & everyone to ask me my age … go ahead, lol! I haven’t felt as healthy in my life, I feel vibrant & strong, got plenty spring chicken zip in my step and not a single person I know who turned fifty could say the same, nor did they indicate being excited ’bout it either … in fact, I’ll match up my 50 year-old Ken-Ken playing, 8K running, BBQ-ing/grilling, Vitamixing skinny-ass against the lot of you!! And yes, I’m being premature by a month with my 50giddiness … like I said, I have zip, lol!
My official 50 year-old pics (don’t know what it is, it’s not that I’m unhappy with the pics, I’m not – just can seem to get the lighting to co-operate, and I’m not happy about that, despite my efforts trying to correct it) … and don’t give me grief I’m not quite there yet, it’s MY blog … indulge me … lemme enjoy each and every day getting there … one more month baby, one month!!

… ok, ok, MAYBE not numero uno, but def in contention … we’ve (I, I folks, lol) made many a great burger through the years, this ranks right at the top. It’s Whole Foods ultimate burger … they have a gazillion to choose from, and I was being lazy (and running late), so I went old school basic (good quality beef, with 80/20 lean/fat ratio – minimum) and dressed it up myself … cremini mushrooms, jalapeño jack cheese, vidalia onion … w/ my homemade bomber sauce (low-fat mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, horseradish) … check out the pics, y’all!
