We used to always use this term, this slang phrase. My buddies and I … everyone that I knew did for that matter. But I swear I haven’t heard it in 25 years, at least. Don’t people use it anymore? Or, don’t people know what it means? Perhaps it’s a regional thing? I’d venture to bet many people don’t know what it is. If you do know, you’re definitely in the minority, and if you don’t, let me clue you in. A half sack is a six pack of beer … bottles usually. Half sack just sounds better than descriptively saying “a six pack” though. I like buying half sacks. I like drinking half sacks even more!! Hell, I bought a hack sack of Anchor Steam today at the LCBO ($12.15)

but never considered using that term when I was purchasing it. Had I, I’m sure the cashier would have given my the obligatory look of bewilderment and confusion, like I don’t know what I’m talking about. You know what? … next time I should go into the store asking for half sacks only to get that expression … what I like to call the dumb American one … you know, when someone gives you a big open mouthed doofus gawk, and then almost as if in slow motion, you can see them straining with way too much difficulty, desperately trying to get out that one syllable that they somehow seem to drag into a complete sentence … “huh”? … What? Me fuck with people? Nah!!
