I'm STILL a self confessing, self professing know-it-all, or so I think!

Half Sack!!

We used to always use this term, this slang phrase. My buddies and I … everyone that I knew did for that matter. But I swear I haven’t heard it in 25 years, at least. Don’t people use it anymore? Or, don’t people know what it means? Perhaps it’s a regional thing? I’d venture to bet many people don’t know what it is. If you do know, you’re definitely in the minority, and if you don’t, let me clue you in. A half sack is a six pack of beer … bottles usually. Half sack just sounds better than descriptively saying “a six pack” though. I like buying half sacks. I like drinking half sacks even more!! Hell, I bought a hack sack of Anchor Steam today at the LCBO ($12.15)

but never considered using that term when I was purchasing it. Had I, I’m sure the cashier would have given my the obligatory look of bewilderment and confusion, like I don’t know what I’m talking about. You know what? … next time I should go into the store asking for half sacks only to get that expression … what I like to call the dumb American one … you know, when someone gives you a big open mouthed doofus gawk, and then almost as if in slow motion,  you can see them straining with way too much difficulty, desperately trying to get out that one syllable that they somehow seem to drag into a complete sentence … “huh”? … What? Me fuck with people? Nah!!

Serious Steaks!!

I’m been blogging for quite some time now about cooking, trying and enjoying different foods, but I’ve been reluctant to take photos, mainly because I feel there are so many bloggers who frankly are better food stylists and photographers than actual cooks, thus visually appearing to be very impressive. Truthfully, I can’t be bothered to whip out my fucking camera when I’m busy cooking, but I guess that’s just me. I’d rather comment before, or after on the meal, the company, the whole event. Yesterday, Tiffany was insistent on taking a few pics showcasing my grilling skills … chicks dig guys with grilling skills … so I figured why not? And here is the result … two 40 ounce Delmonico Steaks!! Oh, and btw that’s 100% Canadian hardwood lump charcoal (no briquette shit for me) easily hitting 1000º Fahrenheit … if not exceeding it!!

As you can see I charred the outside(seasoned with cracked black pepper, kosher salt, and Barberian’s Steak Seasoning) while keeping the inside rare … perfectly grilled!! I served it with grilled garlic-butter bread, caramelized vidalia onions in a balsamic glaze reduction, pan roasted whole button mushrooms seasoned with cracked black pepper, crushed garlic cloves, and fresh thyme(from my garden) and I made a homemade peppercorn/red wine sauce to serve alongside the steaks!!

Thanksgiving already?!!

I started grocery shopping today!! Getting prepared ahead of time. Nothing worse than last minute scrambling in jam packed, crowded stores with the rest of the procrastinating minions. This year I’m going old school … a motherfucking frozen Butterball!! That’s right … you heard me!! I’ve run the whole fucking gamut … in fact, I was one of the first to try air chilled, grain-fed, hormone free, organic, free ranging motherfucking gobblers long before the masses even knew what that was!! I find that they are pretty much all equal in taste, tenderness, and quality … depending on your turkey roasting technique!! For me it always turns out great, so why not? Plus, this year I’m doing a prime rib roast. Gonna attempt to Weber it (wood-burning charcoal of course … what else would you expect of me?)!!

Kellerbier … (or what I call it) … Killer Beer!!

This was introduced this past summer (Jesus Christ can you believe summer’s already gone? … man, time sure does fly). I’m still not sure if it’s seasonal, or if it was a one time offering. And since Creemore was bought-out by Molson, and since this was a very successful item for them, something tells me that we’ll be seeing it again … very soon. Also, I knew that there wasn’t much left in Ontario after doing an LCBO product search, but luckily I found a store with 20 cans left so I purchased the lot. Cheers!!

BTW, I go way, way back to drinking and appreciating Creemore … when they ONLY offered screw top 500 ml bottles in 8 packs!!
