My recent Brilliant (… lol) post reminded me, refreshed my memory … visiting relatives in Nelson, used to cross THIS bridge. I remember it being so rickety (not to mention VERY VERY narrow … apparently was built AND intended for pedestrian traffic only, NOT vehicular … yeah no kidding … really??), even as a small child saw (… and felt) its vulnerability … always thought we were gonna go crashing down into the river below, lol!! I never even knew the name of it, remember Dad slowing … almost stopping when turning, then straightening the car when approaching it, and remember driving VERY VERY slowly (read: carefully, lol) … another thing that didn’t instill any faith or confidence … and remember cowering in the backseat EVERY single time we did!! Hey, to a young boy crossing without incident meant another WHEW … to live another day, lol!! And now love the benefit of using satellite imagery, to see it still there, and to see its replacement also. Found out that it received status as a Canadian National Heritage Site … loved hearing/reading that. It was a part of me, of my life (… still is) … and knowing that, I couldn’t be happier!!
way back when (bridge was built in 1913, pic taken two years later) …
and now …
… and along with its replacement in the foreground (pic 2006) …
