I LOVE running in the rain – getting caught running in the rain. Starting out my run when it’s raining – not so much. Today marks 1 month of training, 2 weeks from today and it’ll be 1 year I became a runner. AND, since I’m talking anniversaries; watch for my next blog post – is an ANNI-BIGGIE – fair warning!
I ran 7.5K today. I stopped and restarted, not because I was hurting, but because of an issue w/ my Garmin. Don’t wanna get into it now, give details – will soon enough! First 5.5K was on a 4:36 kilometer pace, so I felt good. Finished the final 2K stronger – sub 4:30 … YES, 4:29 is sub 4:30, lol!
WOW! I amazed myself! It’s only been 2 weeks of training, and today I ran my longest distance. And, I’m very pleased with my time; sub 48 minutes! I’ll be honest, when I resumed training after the winter layoff, I was discouraged during my first week back. I think (I know) I expected to jump right back in the saddle and continue where I left off. Today was definitely a step in that direction. The weather was near perfect – so happy to finally have Spring like temps. Oh … and, I wanted to run 10K acknowledging tomorrow’s Toronto Yonge Street 10K … my 10k y’all!
Wouldn’t wanna have to walk in this?! Weather forecast did call for isolated showers, lol! Happy my hose & nozzle (minds outta the gutter folks) survived the winter unscathed! 😈
Minus 35 w/ windchill! It’s been like this for too many days! On top of it, I’m stuck sitting and waiting someplace I don’t wanna be. To make matters more depressing, RunKeeper hasn’t had a workout since December 7. And as I’m forced to be here (God is still trying to test/help me with my lack of patience. It isn’t working!), my mind wanders to the end of last year … honestly, I only wanted a coupla generic ibuprofen!
Pics taken outside my house. We could see trees plummeting thunderously crashing to the ground and we stood surveying the damage. Tiff even pulled out her Yaktrax … complete with pjs, quite the ensemble, lol!
strewn branches.

ice is an inch thick, and counting.
at my driveway. creaking, a matter of time. will be blocked in, prisoners.
… my ENTIRE weekend!! Laying wood floor. Bamboo. Or in my case bamboozled. Winter storm weather didn’t help, neither did the long drive there and back (… and there and back again) in said conditions. Saturday started and ended the same, shovelling snow. Sunday too. Rolled in close to midnight last night, six tonight. My lost weekend. Doing my part to help, that’s me!
Thanksgiving Day today, but celebrated with family yesterday … so you know what that means … LEFTOVERS, lol! Lotsa turkey, stuffing, gravy, pumpkin pie. Yum!
What a beautiful Canadian autumn day today, a great day for a run, a perfect opportunity to try my hand at fartlek training. I guess you can say I’ve done it before … changing up my running. I broke it up into four separate runs. First, I ran 2K semi-fast, then 1K really fast, then another 1K even faster, and finished with a 2K that included a hill climb, and a long gradual descent. Was fun mixing it up. Even tried a new app, sorry Strava, sticking w/ RunKeeper. PLUS, it’s my nephew’s birthday today. A beautiful Canadian day indeed!
my kicks are accumulating kilometers, easily 1200K to date …
Running is hard! It’s very hard when you haven’t trained, for whatever the reason. It’s very hard to put on your gear and head out the door. I had two goals in mind after what amounts to being unable to run for the past eleven days. I wanted to complete my 8K run without stopping, and I wanted to establish a good pace from the 1st kilometer, and keep it till the end. I wasn’t looking for anything near my PR. I wanted to run, non-stop at a fairly fast pace. I did it. I’ll admit, it wasn’t easy … running at times takes so much mental strength, as well as physical conditioning. I’d rank today’s run as one of my best ever, especially with all of my adversities of late. I’m hoping with better health, and good weather, my training will continue uninterrupted.
… not only foggy, humid. Was welcomed as well … too many cold morning runs lately. Felt so good stepping out the front door, and not feeling a chill. Happy Friday y’all!
… really don’t know what I was thinking these last couple of days?! Yesterday was in the 40s, and in the 30s as I awoke … yet, I still run, and STILL KILL IT!! A 17:52 4K in this energy-sapping humidity, I’ll happily take that time till the cows come home!!
Plus, Tiff K & I sucked it up for these couple of Indian Summer days, absolutely REFUSING to turn on the A/C … unlike our zealot A/C using/loving next door neighbours who have that fecking thing cranked all seasons, sans one. I know, MORE stupidity,eh, lol?!
Had two pretty good runs today. Must admit it wasn’t easy, but I persevered. My 4K was sub 18 minutes, which is always a good thing, but as I said, I really had to fight to get it. After walking/light jogging, and nearing my 1 mile run starting point, I said to myself, just run all six fractions evenly/equally (or, at least try to), and see what happens. Normally, for the mile … I start sprinting like a bat outta hell, trying to hang on (lung burning survive I mean, lol) till the very end. I’m thrilled I changed my strategy, I ran the mile … and, I’ll be honest – I felt as if I was jogging (at a quick pace albeit) it … and I STILL only missed my PR by 12 seconds!! One day when I’m feeling stronger, will approach my 1mile run exactly the same way as today, and I know I’ll def PR. I’m still experimenting/learning new/different things with running. And don’t forget y’all, I’m a newbienovice to the game … I’m a greenrunner, lol!

… was a beautiful, breezy, 15° sunny Sunday morning! And nope, ain’t smiling … you can’t make me, lol!
My body needs it, and this is one of the ways I give it a break. I’m too stubborn to rest, even for a day … so I have to wait for a rainy morning to make the decision for me. I’m fine with it too, as I said, I need rest. Plus, I’m still on a high from yesterday’s 10K run. I did mention it was the best one, the best run I ever had at any distance … still soaking it in, reliving it … enjoying it!!
