my 4K run ends at a major intersection. 150 meters before that is a traffic light. a traffic light which 90%+ of the time shows me green as I approach, allowing me to run through, to run hard straight to the finish. not today. plan B; I have a secondary route if this occurs while I’m killing it. nearing, and I all I see is RED (damn you all to hell timed traffic lights, lol)! at the last possible second … I veer left … to continue making up the necessary distance without stopping. this sharp turn alone costs me a couple of seconds, but due to ongoing construction in the area, not permitting traffic, pedestrian traffic as well as I painfully found out to continue, I unknowingly ran myself into dead-end … AND, as close to a 4K without being a 4K. but luckily, I saw stairs that weren’t part of this blockade, and were left accessible for pedestrians. stairs that ultimately I ran up to finish my final few meters. I know this musta cost me at least 10 seconds on my final lap … as well as a a lot of ‘can you believe that shit’? laughter afterwards, as I admired my run on my Garmin, lol!

I haven’t run since December 7th. Not once! I feared it would come to this, and I did my best minimizing weeks (months?) lost by stretching it out as long as I did during these changing seasons. I refuse to run when there are so many treacherous obstacles due to our weird&wicked-winter! Sidewalks still haven’t been cleared completely along my route. Not to mention all the fallen tree debris littering said sidewalks due to the ice-storm. It’s just NOT safe!! So, for now, I’m biding my warm-sweet-ass time!
Cold temps don’t affect me. Never have, not in the least. Nor hot climes either for that matter! If luck was on my side, if we had no snow. If essentially the neighbourhood was a hard, frozen tundra, I’d be out there every single day, same as I was in the spring/summer/fall …just protectively layered up the wazoo mind you, is all! Given the hand I was dealt, will wait. Better safe than sorry …right?
For Chrissakes, have been hit by a car (twice actually) when the running was good (least, when I thought it was). And, I am careful, peering into every vehicle crossing my path, watching driver’s eyes, and if they’re not looking in my direction, watching out for me, I’m VERY careful, watching out for THEM! Despite this, I still unashamedly stake claim to my pedestrian right of way, never missing an opportunity; wagging my finger lecturingly (yeah, made it up) as I pass by. Smarten up … pay attention! Hood surfing more than once, can attest to drivers being more freaked out than I. Doesn’t help that our faces are inches apart due to my extending as far forward as I can … think Alien w/Sigourney Weaver! Oh, and God Bless the patient, attentive drivers who when they see runners approaching the intersection we are about to share … wait till we do, AND even reverse slightly signaling they see us, and allowing safe and easy passage. I ALWAYS wave an appreciative wave, acknowledging their kindness. Must be runners themselves, I figure, lol?!
And, no … not about to climb aboard any treadmill … ok, I REALLY REALLY have to say this … I read many running blogs/sites. Running on a treadmill IS NOT running. Don’t know what the fuck it?! Exercise, sure. Fitness, absolutely. Calories burned, ditto. Healthy, check. Do I admire your efforts? Yep, you bet! It just ain’t running, so stop sayin’ it is, lol!

Ordering online from the UK is very civilized as well, never a worry. I’m still in awe, I ordered on the 18th (really, the 19th considering the time difference), and here it is at my front door on the 23rd before 6:00! Now, while I’m VAT exempt, and shipping was free (another thing; I scored free shipping with 2 days remaining on the deal, and depending on how you decipher their fees, if I’m considered USA, it’s £20, if I’m Rest of the World, it’s £30 … HUGE savings, woohoo!), but because it was delivered courier and not Canada Post, I’m not duty, tax free – was nipped for $34! Bloody buggers! It’s a thing of beauty, made in Italy … so mother ‘fn chuffed!

Remember my score from before? My $25 ladder from Lowe’s? That was awesome! Now I think I have a ladder fetish, lol. I’ve been wanting a good quality 4′ ladder ever since. They never go on sale, in fact stores don’t carry/stock the highest rated Grade 1 Type 1A or Type 1AA. My Home Depot did have a few Grade 1 Type 1 ladders in stock. So when I spied their Black Friday flyer offering a 5′ fiberglass ladder for $29, I was curious – in fact I was in Home Depot yesterday, and while there wanted to check it out. But, when I inquired, I was told they weren’t even putting them out till the stored closed, so they’d be ready for sale Friday morning – doors opened at 6:00 I was told. Oh, also I gleaned another tidbit – they were only allotted 37 ladders for this store. I was out running errands, so I went, but it was in the afternoon, and worker-dude told me by 10 o’clock they were all snapped up. I figured. I don’t even know if I would have bought one anyways, I really have my heart set on the 4′ model. Standing in the ladder row, admiring MY ladder, my mind’s wheels started churning. I knew it was a longshot, but I’ve got a set on me, so I proceeded to customer service. As I began talking to the lady behind the counter, I could see/feel negativity immediately as I spoke. Her facial expression/body language didn’t look promising. But, I hadn’t hit her with my well thought out line yet. “Nothing we can do”, was what she was saying since it was limited quantities, and they were sold out. Then, I said, “well, can I have a 4 footer for the same price?” Her facial expression changed, AND she began walking back, poking her head into a room to obviously speak with someone in higher authority. I knew I had her. See, it’s that mentality … 4 feet is less than 5 feet, the customer is getting less. So she thought, in fact, I kept selling it too, saying I’d settle for a smaller ladder, lol. Little did she know it was the one I coveted all along, and it’s higher rated, AND it costs $65 … well, not for me, not now, lol. She told me to go get it, and come back and see her. I did. She asked how I wanted to pay? Cash, I said. I just wanted to get the hell outta there before anybody got wise to me, lol! Yeah, bought a Lotta MAX – after today’s horseshoes, ya never know, eh?!
… arrived in the mail today! Been spending up a storm with my temporary card, buying a shitload of shit, scoring great deals along the way, AND getting 10% off (or more) all purchases.
